Deep neck space infections: a study of 20 cases

Background: Deep neck space infections is defined as infection in the potential spaces and fascial planes of neck. location complexity these make diagnosis treatment difficult. Proper immediate necessary to attain cure without any complications. Treatment principally comprises airway management, surgical intervention i. e.; incision drainage abscess appropriate antibiotic per culture sensitivity report. Methods: Present study was performed from June 2015 2016 comprised 20 cases. All patients coming OPD tertiary care centre with suspected deep infections. The demographic characteristics, presenting symptoms, etiology, imaging each case reviewed. Results: We evaluated mean age found be 40 years. Diabetes a co-morbid condition 25% patients. Male: female ratio 1:1.5. In majority cases, etiological factor odontogenic (50%). Streptococcus pyogenes organism which most commonly isolated. Ludwig’s angina common clinical presentation (20%).
